Hello, my name is Misato.

I am a designer and illustrator based in Tokyo and New York. I was born in New York and raised in Tokyo. I previously worked as a lighting designer in Tokyo and I moved to the United States in 2018 to study and further develop my skills. I studied interior design at New School, Parsons School of Design and worked as a lighting designer at a lighting design firm in New York.

During this period of my life, I began drawing. I believe that the loneliness of living in New York, along with difficult experiences, beautiful memories, and a sense of freedom, naturally led me to create art. The act of drawing worked like art therapy or meditation, supporting my heart and mind throughout my life abroad.

As I continued drawing, I gradually began working as an illustrator. I lived in New York for seven years, and in 2025 I moved my base back to Tokyo. While I am not currently working as a lighting designer, I hope to continue exploring and engaging with light in different ways. Going forward, I plan to travel between New York and Tokyo while focusing on my work as an illustrator based in Tokyo.

During difficult times, when my heart felt heavy and closed off, beautiful things saved me. The desire to express what my heart has felt, to draw it in my own way and share it with others—this simple feeling is the driving force behind my work.

When I see people smile or feel something in their hearts through my illustrations, it truly makes me happy. I hope to continue creating such work.

こんにちは、みさとと申します。

私は東京とニューヨークを拠点とするデザイナー/イラストレーターです。
ニューヨークで生まれ、東京で育ちました。元々は照明デザイナーであった私は、勉強、修行のため2018年に渡米しました。PasonsのNew Schoolでインテリアデザインを学んだり、ニューヨークの照明デザイン事務所で照明デザイナーとして働いていました。そんな生活の中、絵を描き始めました。ニューヨーク生活の孤独や、辛い体験や美しい思い出、また自由さなどが私を絵の制作へと導いてくれたのだと思います。絵を描くことは、アートセラピーやメディテーションのように働いて、海外生活での私の心を支えてくれました。

イラストを描き続けているうちに、イラストレーターとして活動するようになりました。ニューヨークには７年間住んでいましたが、2025年に東京に拠点を移しました。照明デザイナーとしては今は活動しておりませんが、別の方法で光にはアプローチしていきたいと思っています。今後はニューヨークにも行き来しつつ、東京をベースにイラストレーターとして活動する予定です。

辛かった時、心が塞いでしまった時、美しいものが私の心を救ってくれました。私の心が感じたもの、それを私なりに描き、共有したい、そういうシンプルな思いが私の絵を描く原動力となっています。

私の絵を通して、絵を見た方が微笑んで下さったり、心で感じてくださったりすのを見ると、本当に嬉しくなります。そういう絵を描き続けていけたらと思います。
